We are a 501(c)3 non-profit volunteer support organization dedicated to sustaining and enriching the Fairhope Public Library as a cultural and educational center for everyone in Fairhope.   To achieve this goal we:

  2. Provide financial assistance to develop and expand services, materials and facilities.
  3. Collect, sort, and manage donations of used books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, and audio books.Donated materials are available in the Friends’ Used Bookstore and at Special Book Sales, including monthly Lobby Book Sales. We also donate books to various local charities and other Baldwin County Public Libraries.
  4. Advocate for public support of our library with city government and our local community.
  5. Provide scholarships for library employees working towards degrees or certification in Library  and Information Science.

Get To Know Us

Welcome to the official page of Friends of the Fairhope Public Library. We were founded in 1959 when the volunteers and donors from the community who dedicated their time and finances to the library formed the first Friends group.  This forward thinking, dedicated group of volunteers pioneered the mission of the Friends of the Fairhope Public Library by, providing support for the library’s needs and services. In 1972 we received 501 c(3) Non-Profit status from the Internal Revenue Service and we officially became Friends of the Fairhope Public Library. This group formally organized and set up by-laws, membership fees, and its non-profit status. There are currently hundreds of members of this organization who provide financial and volunteer support to the library. We also encourage members of the community to visit and use the library’s facilities and join the activities and programs. In 2021, we were able to generate $25,000 to improve our library and purchase new books for different categories. We encourage residents of Fairhope and other citizens who wish to help to join us or become members.

Board Of Directors

We are governed by a Board of Directors who meet on the third Wednesday of each month.  We plan an annual full membership meeting the first Sunday in November. Directors are elected at the annual meeting to serve for 3 years.
